Evo Morales Denounces Armed Attack and Government Lies

Former Bolivian president Evo Morales (2006-2019) spoke about the armed attack he reported last Sunday, stating that his statements had been distorted because he does not speak perfect Spanish. The former leader reiterated that he did not carry weapons or shoot at the police, as alleged by the government of President Luis Arce.

Morales expressed in a radio interview that his words were misinterpreted and accused the Minister of Government (Interior), Eduardo del Castillo, of spreading "lies" about the events that occurred on Sunday. He categorically denied having fired or being armed, calling the accusations against him false.

The former Bolivian leader reported that the vehicle he was traveling in received at least 14 shots and that the driver was injured in the head during the alleged attack. Morales pointed out that Minister Del Castillo has falsely accused him and his associates, initiating a new trial based on distorted information.

Additionally, Morales questioned the veracity of the accusations against him and the role reversal taking place in the case, where the victim is now presented as the guilty party. He insisted that his words were distorted and that he never claimed to have fired at the police.

These events occur while Morales's supporters have maintained a blockade for 16 days, demanding the withdrawal of legal proceedings against him, as well as solutions to the economic situation and the defense of his possible presidential candidacy for the 2025 elections. In this context, Morales has requested an international and independent investigation through organizations such as Alba or Celac to clarify what happened last Sunday.
